first annual, shingle mill pioneer day 5K

My mom started running in China and decided she wanted to run a 5K so she and her friend Kirsten planned one on our road for this morning. It was a rousing success and deemed worthy of repeating every year. I even ran and finished in 34 mins (that was running, walking, and helping with two downed bikes) David Nelson age 10 had the fastest time at 25 minutes! It was a blast.

The racers at the beginning. We had 4 or 5 families from the ward join the fun.

And they're off!

Grandma and Kirsten - the master minds behind the fun.

It was a gorgeous course - thank you Sandpoint, Idaho.

Our water station crew.

Diana was the water station forewoman and ran a tight ship - no one lacked for a drink.

Uncle David towed the toddlers

Isaac is a goof! It was not cold, AT ALL - the weather was perfect.

lalalalalala

David coming in for the victory!

Aunt Mel - triumphant.

I was egging on the kid in front of me - he did not want me to catch him.

The water crew and the kids who did not want to to run the whole course return in a blaze of glory.

Grandma and a successful finish.

HOORAY!

emily's baptism

Emily was baptized this morning and it was as lovely as she is. We had lots of cousins and both sets of Grandparents. We have a rip roaring party planned for later today so it is turning out to be a beautiful, perfect 8th birthday.

4th of july

I realized I did not post pictures of the 4th; so here we go.

We of course started with the traditional kazoo and bell band marching to a rousing rendition of "You're a Grand Old Flag" followed by Grandpa, David and Josh (our cub scouts) raising the flag.

The Sandpoint parade never changes - NEVER - but it's always good fun. Notice this year's T-shirt - bleach art. A highlight of the parade was running into our high school choir teacher Mr. Brownell, a man who did a lot of good in our family.

The evening progressed with traditional hamburgers, hot dogs, watermelon, bbq corn, chips, deviled eggs and ice cream. TASTY!

Livy had aspirations to be a drum majorette someday! We finished the evening with spectacular fireworks (although Uncle Stephen almost blew us up).

It was a great 4th and I am grateful to be an American.

Where would you rather spend your summer?

A sampling of images from northern Idaho.

Grandpa Boren with a lot of his 2nd generation near the top of Golden Mountain.

Ryan, Marian, Emily, and cousin David canoeing on Lake Pend Oreille.
It was a beautiful day...
...and a beautiful evening.  This is Diana out on the lake at dusk.

Where would you rather spend your summer?

(for disclosure purposes this is a Ryan post)

for Daddy

We had a lovely outing yesterday to Schwietzer for their annual Celebration of Summer (free chairlift rides).  We had a picnic, played in a little snow, and enjoyed the view.

Sarah fashion sense is unserpassed.
