the nice part of february

In the middle of all the yucky part of February, we got to go to Utah to see cousins and aunt Mel's show Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat! The show was OUTSTANDING! I love how Aunt Mel takes what everyone else directs as a light fun romp through musical styles and actually makes her actors and audience think about what really happened to this family and how their choices damaged and healed the relationships. This she managed to do, all the while, not losing the fun and energy of this great show!

On Saturday, before the show, we hiked the Y with the kids and they did great.

Uncle Michael the birthday boy.

Aunt Sherrie, Nelson and William between parties.

It was a lovely trip AND we got to see our good friends the Gammons who made the effort to come to the show. They have the most handsome new baby and it was grand to see them.

that beastly month of February

Name the musical that has this line: "that beastly month of February". Answer at the end of the post.

February has been rather beastly from a health perspective.

We started out with Sarah breaking her left arm. she fell out of the tree in the back yard. Ouch! It happened around 4 in the afternoon so I rushed her over to Chandler Regional so I would be close to home if the other kids needed me and it was INSANE! The nurse told me it was the busiest day on record. Sarah was a champ, the staff were so, so kind, but it did take a LONG time to get it set. We finally got home about midnight. I ate a little bag of m&m's for dinner and Sarah got nothing becuase they wanted her tummy empty for the sedative they wanted to give her. We were glad to get home!

A week and a day later, Nelson fell off an ottoman onto a hand weight (I was working out) and split his head. It looked like a good candidate for butterfly bandages and Diana and I had our annual eye exams schedules so I slapped them on and we went about our morning. Later, when we were waiting for preschool to let out he tore off the butterflies and it was clear to my nurse friends that stitches were needed. Off we trotted to insta-care for stitches - not so fun, but more effective than butterfly bandages.

Two days after stitches, Isaac came down with strep. Three more days and Diana had it. One more day and we were back at the doctor with Nelson, thinking he had it. He did not, but he did have pneumonia (dr visit and the lab for x-rays). Breathing treatments are not his favorite. When we went back the next day for a follow up he had a double ear infection.

Amid it all, Sarah got her pink sparkle cast and will have it removed a few days before Disneyland!

As we approach the end of February, I am now sick with a nasty cold. I'm hoping for a healthier March.

The musical quote, for those who care, if from "Pirates of Penzance".
