Nelson turned three a few weeks back, and yes he does insist he is four!
We celebrated with pancakes - a favorite of our boy.
Later in the day Cousin Marie cashed in a skateland party she won at a school carnival and we partied!
The birthday boy refused to even try, but there was a big bowl of popcorn, endless fruit punch and a monster truck cartoon on the TV, so a great time was had by all.
Goals for the year: potty training (auuuuughhhhhh), and better eating.
Wish us luck!

north rim adventures
We spent a few days at the North Rim of Grand Canyon last week and it was lovely. We were very grateful to the good members of congress who managed to keep the national parks open this October (we had to cancel our trip last year - grrrr).
One of the nicest things this trip was the colors. The aspens were peaking and they were gorgeous. Driving South into the Flagstaff looking at Humphry's peak was amazing and the meadows around the Canyon were gorgeous.
The mornings were really chilly but the days were perfectly perfect in the 60's! It was sosososososo nice to not be hot! We took several hikes, a few drives, played games and rolled in the dirt. Out tent worked great and Nelson even managed to do a poop on the potty.
Emmy's morning face.
Rocks - it is Arizona after all.
Sarah and Nelson were the champion dirt rollers. They also enjoyed firewood teeter-totters.
You may not know this about Nora: she is a "stuff" person. When packing for 8 people one must pack light, but Nora managed to bring several extra treasures including, but not limited to a Harry Potter book, tic tacs and Kitty Meow! It's a good thing I love her because her mess drives me CRAZY!
All the older kids got their Junior Ranger and Junior Paleontologist badges and Isaac and Diana also got their Night Explorers complete with cool patch. It always cracks me up how motivated they are for stuff like this, but they always learn a lot and hey a badge and patch are pretty cool!
The best part of the week was having Grammy and Grampy! We love having them retired and so willing to drop everything to adventure with us. Grammy came armed with new games and a great attitude. She introduced the kids to foil dinners (a HIT!) and Grampy made a winning cobbler that was divine!
Here she is with her favorite son!
It's not camping without hot chocolate! Until next time - Hasta la vista Grand Canyon!
