These are magazine beads. You take a page of a magazine with pleasing colors and cut it into long triangles about 1/2 inch wide at the base. Roll each triangle on a toothpick, coat the whole thing with white glue and slide off the toothpick. If you want t thicker, rounder bead put 2 or 3 triangles on top of each other and then roll.
String with plastic accent beads and voila! pretty bracelets. You can buy super awesome magazine jewelry from Africa from an organization called Beads for Life if you like the look but don't want to roll and roll and roll. The African ones are also shellacked so they are hard and a little shiny - pretty.

Our other cool project was homemade stuffed animals. I'm not even going to bother showing you the finished projects (they are pretty funny looking), but the kids had a great time designing, sewing on the machine with me, stuffing, sewing on button eyes etc.
